Tesla guides · Frequently replaced parts
Tesla Model 3/Y door mirrors and side glass: complete unit, or component parts?
A mirror gets clipped in a car park. The housing cover is cracked. The workshop orders a mirror. The mirror arrives, costs several times what the job is worth, and the customer asks why. This is the most common ordering mistake in the Tesla wear-parts range, and entirely avoidable, because Tesla catalogues the mirror as a stack of separately-orderable pieces rather than as one unit. GNSGO supplies Tesla-compatible parts to workshops, fleet operators and parts buyers across Europe, and our index holds 25 entries in the mirror family alone. This page is about recognising which layer of the stack a job actually needs. Left and right are never interchangeable, anywhere in it.
1. The mirror is five parts, not one
On Model 3 and Model Y the exterior mirror breaks down, in catalogued terms, into:
- The complete assembly — motor, housing, glass and electronics together.
- The skull cap — the outer cover.
- The glass — handed and specification-dependent.
- The triangle trim — the inner trim at the base of the mirror, again handed.
- The repeater lamp on some specifications — a separate part.
Most damage is to the second item. Most orders are for the first.
2. Work out which situation you are in
| What you see | What you most likely need | Why not the assembly |
|---|---|---|
| Scuffed, cracked or missing outer cover; mirror still adjusts and folds | Skull cap — the cover only. | The mechanism underneath is undamaged; an assembly is wasted money. |
| Cover damaged and the unit will not adjust or fold | Complete assembly. | Motor or mechanism damage moves it up the stack. |
| Mirror glass cracked, housing and adjustment fine | Mirror glass for that side and specification. | Glass is catalogued separately and is handed. |
| Glass broken and the adjuster or heater is dead | Complete assembly, or glass plus diagnosis. | Decide after confirming the mechanism. |
| Damaged or missing inner trim at the base of the mirror | Triangle trim, left or right. | Cheap part, frequently ordered as a whole mirror. |
| Indicator in the mirror not working, everything else fine | The repeater lamp for that side. | Often a separate reference; check before replacing the unit. |
| Cover damaged on a car whose colour is not factory-standard | Unpainted cap, to be finished. | Our data records Unpainted variants specifically. |
3. Skull caps — the part that should be ordered far more often than it is
Our index holds three generations of the unpainted skull cap, each in left and right:
- 1092290-00-D — exterior mirror skull cap, left hand, unpainted — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1092292-00-D — exterior mirror skull cap, right hand, unpainted — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1495593-00-A — skull cap, exterior mirror, left hand, unpainted.
- 1495594-00-A — skull cap, exterior mirror, right hand, unpainted.
- 1963538-00-B — skull cap, exterior mirror, left hand, unpainted.
- 1963539-00-B — skull cap, exterior mirror, right hand, unpainted.
Three bases — 109229x, 149559x and 196353x — each covering both sides, all recorded as unpainted. That word matters: an unpainted cap is supplied for finishing, which is what a bodyshop working to a non-standard colour needs. Our data carries 16 entries marked Unpainted or Primed across the range, so this is a real category rather than an anomaly. Note the revision spread too — -00-D, -00-A and -00-B. The revision letter is part of the identity, not a batch code.
4. Complete assemblies — and the market variants
When the job really does need the whole unit, the split is by specification and by market. This is the part of the catalogue that catches people out.
- 1110777-00-L — exterior mirror assembly, premium, domestic, left hand, [EC] — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1592031-00-B — exterior mirror assembly, premium, domestic, left hand, [EC — black] — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1592032-00-B — exterior mirror assembly, premium, domestic, right hand, [EC — black] — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1592033-00-D — exterior mirror assembly, chrome-delete, EC, export, left hand.
- 1592034-00-D — exterior mirror assembly, chrome-delete, EC, export, right hand.
- 1594111-00-B — exterior mirror assembly, electrochromic, premium domestic, left hand.
- 1594112-00-F — exterior mirror assembly, electrochromic, premium domestic, right hand.
- 1609790-00-E — exterior mirror assembly, premium, left hand, export.
- 1609791-00-E — exterior mirror assembly, premium, right hand, export.
- 2130973-00-A — exterior mirror assembly, premium, left hand, export CN.
- 2130974-00-A — exterior mirror assembly, premium, right hand, export CN.
Three distinctions appear in the recorded names: domestic versus export versus export CN, electrochromic versus standard, and chrome-delete trim. Those are not cosmetic footnotes — they are part of the reference's identity. A European buyer should be looking at the export-designated references; ordering from the model name alone is close to a coin toss.
5. Glass — handed, and specification-dependent
- 1130653-00-A — exterior mirror glass, premium, export, left hand.
- 1130654-00-A — exterior mirror glass, premium, export, right hand.
- 1609853-02-A — exterior mirror premium glass, left hand, export.
- 1609854-02-A — exterior mirror premium glass, right hand, export.
- 1615880-00-A — exterior mirror premium glass, left hand, domestic.
- 1615883-00-A — exterior mirror premium glass, right hand, domestic.
Same structure again — export and domestic variants, each handed. The same rule as the assemblies: the VIN settles it.
6. Triangle trim — the small part that gets missed
- 1130655-00-E — mirror triangle trim, left hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1130656-00-E — mirror triangle trim, right hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1495632-00-B — mirror triangle trim, left hand — Model Y (2020–2024).
- 1495633-00-B — mirror triangle trim, right hand — Model Y (2020–2024).
Two bases split by model, each handed. If the complaint is a broken or missing trim piece at the base of the mirror, this is the order — not a cap, and certainly not an assembly.
7. Side glass and the hardware behind it
The same logic applies to the door glass. For the pane itself, send us the part number or a photo of the label, and we will check whether we can source it. What our index holds today is the seals and regulators around it, and those are the parts that get ordered.
Glass run seals, handed and in more than one revision:
- 1090501-00-G — front door glass run seal, left hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1090502-00-G — front door glass run seal, right hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1090501-00-I — front door glass run seal, left hand — later revision.
- 1090502-00-I — front door glass run seal, right hand — later revision.
- 1500066-00-B — glass run seal, front door, left hand.
- 1500067-00-B — glass run seal, front door, right hand.
- 2085055-00-A — glass run clip.
Window regulators, which are the usual cause of a door glass that will not move:
- 1096620-20-J — front window regulator, left hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1096621-20-J — front window regulator, right hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1096622-00-K — rear window regulator, left hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1096623-00-K — rear window regulator, right hand — Model 3 (2017–2023).
- 1526800-00-E — window regulator mechanism, front door, left hand.
- 1526801-00-E — window regulator mechanism, front door, right hand.
- 2005484-00-A — window regulator mechanism, front door, left hand.
- 2005485-00-A — window regulator mechanism, front door, right hand.
Four bases across the regulator population, all handed, front and rear separate. A regulator enquiry needs position and side; a glass-run enquiry needs the same plus the revision.
8. What to send with an enquiry
Send the VIN, the side, and — most importantly — what is actually damaged. "Mirror" is not an answer. "Outer cover scuffed, unit still folds and adjusts" is, and it is worth a fraction of the alternative.
For glass work, say whether the glass moves. A pane that will not move is a regulator question, not a glass question.
And assume nothing about side. In our own data 287 entries carry a "left hand" marker, and every mirror, cap, glass, trim and regulator reference here exists in left and right forms.
Short answers
The mirror cover is cracked. Do I need the whole mirror?
Almost certainly not. Order the skull cap — 1092290-00-D or 1092292-00-D for Model 3 (2017–2023), for example, or the later 1495593-00-A and 1495594-00-A pair. Only move to an assembly if the unit will not adjust or fold.
Are left and right mirror parts interchangeable?
No. Not for assemblies, caps, glass, triangle trim or regulators. Every reference in this group exists in a left and a right version.
Why are there domestic, export and export-CN mirror assemblies?
Because Tesla records them separately. Our data holds domestic references such as 1592031-00-B, export references such as 1609790-00-E and export-CN references such as 2130973-00-A for the same position. The VIN decides which one applies.
Do you supply unpainted caps?
We confirm, part number by part number, whether we can supply it. All six skull cap references in our index are recorded Unpainted, including 1963538-00-B and 1963539-00-B, and they are supplied for finishing.
Do you list the side glass itself?
Send us the part number or a photo of the label, and we will check whether we can source it. What our index holds today is the glass run seals and the window regulators around the pane — 1096620-20-J and its siblings are the usual order when a pane stops moving.
Where this comes from.
The references quoted above are taken from GNSGO's own parts index for China-built and China-sourced Tesla parts — the same list at Tesla compatible parts — OE reference index. Availability and application are confirmed per enquiry against the OE number and, where it matters, the VIN. We have not drawn on Tesla's copyrighted workshop documentation for this page, and we do not reproduce any manual pages. The domestic / export / export-CN split and the unpainted-cap pattern are drawn from our own data and are presented as patterns we see, not as definitions published by Tesla. Where our own records stop short of an answer, we say so rather than filling the gap with a plausible number.
