U010287 — Gear shift module lost communication
Quick answer
U010287 means the vehicle lost contact with the electronic gear shift module on the network. Gear selection may not respond; this affects how the car drives, so it should be inspected rather than driven on.
What to check first
- Check whether other modules on the same network also report communication faults; one module offline can set codes in several others.
- Check the 12 V battery state of charge and terminals; a weak 12 V supply causes many electronic faults.
- Read all stored fault codes with a scan tool and deal with related codes first.
Can I still drive?
Have it inspected before further driving. If in doubt, park the car and ask a technician — a fault that limits power or shuts the high-voltage system down will not clear by itself.
