BYD part numbers: how the reference is built, and what we observe in our own index

A BYD reference in our index looks like 13329943-00: eight digits, a hyphen, and 00. There is no revision letter, no colour code and no market suffix visible in the string. That simplicity is misleading, because it removes the few cues a buyer normally uses to sanity-check a number. This page describes the shape we observe across GNSGO's 169 BYD references, contrasts it with the Tesla and European conventions buyers already know, and sets out the evidence that forces one conclusion: on this brand, the reference has to be ordered as written, against the VIN, and never as a description.

1. The shape we observe

Across all 169 references in our index, the format is consistent:

Element What we see What it does not tell you
Eight-digit base Present on every one of our 169 references Which model, platform or model year the part belongs to
-00 suffix Present on every one of our 169 references A revision level, since no other suffix appears in our data
Revision letter None observed Whether a later version of the part exists

Two consequences follow immediately. First, because -00 is universal in our data, it carries no discriminating information — it cannot be used to choose between two similar references. Second, because there is no visible revision letter, there is no visible signal of supersession. Comparing a number you hold with a number we quote is the only way to check whether they are the same record.

2. How this differs from what European buyers already know

Convention Example Visible cues for the buyer
BYD references in our index 13329981-00 Numeric base only; no revision, finish or market code
Tesla references 1006521-00-A Base, middle code and a revision letter that runs through the alphabet
Typical European OE groups Grouped, often with visible variant and index characters Group structure often hints at the sub-system

The practical difference is information density. On a Tesla reference the ending letter tells an experienced buyer that a version history exists and that -00-A is one point in it. On a BYD reference nothing in the string distinguishes two parts that share a name. A European buyer's instinct — read the number, infer the variant — has nothing to read here, so the enquiry has to be settled by the record behind the number rather than by the number's shape.

We state these as observed differences between our own index and the conventions buyers recognise. They are not a published description of how BYD constructs its references.

3. The prefix distribution in our index

Sorting our 169 references by their leading two digits gives the following distribution. This is an observation about our own stock, not a statement about BYD's numbering plan.

Prefix Count
10xxxxxx-00 11
11xxxxxx-00 3
12xxxxxx-00 30
13xxxxxx-00 48
14xxxxxx-00 37
15xxxxxx-00 15
16xxxxxx-00 6
17xxxxxx-00 15
18xxxxxx-00 2
19xxxxxx-00 2

The distribution is concentrated in the 12–15 range, which is where the bulk of our suspension and cooling references sit. What matters for a buyer is the negative result: the prefix does not map cleanly to a vehicle or a sub-system in our data, so it cannot be used to narrow an enquiry. Two references beginning 13 are no more likely to be interchangeable than two beginning 13 and 17.

4. The decisive evidence: 33 groups where one name holds many numbers

This is the part that changes how you order. In our index there are 33 part-name groups in which a single description carries more than one reference. The largest examples:

Part name References in this group
Suspension Spring Washer 16
Shock Absorber 12
Front Wheel Suspension Arm 10
Shock Absorber Bumper 9
Wheel Hub 9
Wheel Suspension Arm 6
Link Stabiliser 6
Electric Coolant Pump 5
Ball Joint 5
Engine Mount 5

The Suspension Spring Washer group is the clearest illustration. It includes 10775328-00 and 13312703-00, which sit far apart numerically, and also 13312703-00 and 13312704-00, which are consecutive. The same pattern appears inside the Shock Absorber group: 13351989-00 and 17132720-00 are two of its twelve, spread across the numeric range. In the Front Wheel Suspension Arm group, 13329943-00 and 14018536-00 are two of ten.

Two readings are possible and both argue against ordering by name. Either one vehicle uses several different washers, arms or dampers across positions and specifications, or different vehicles use different references under one description. Our published index does not carry model-year fitment, so we do not choose between those readings here — and for the purpose of placing an order it does not matter, because both mean the same thing: the description alone cannot select the part.

Note also what the groups do to a "universal" assumption. If a buyer believes a spring washer is a spring washer, the index offers sixteen candidates. If the buyer has the old number, the search returns one record. That is the whole argument for number-first enquiries.

5. What this means in practice

  • Never order by description. "Front suspension arm" is not an order line; 13329943-00 is. Where the old part is still on the car, photograph the label rather than naming the part.
  • Quote the suffix. -00 is part of the reference. Truncating 12252706-00 to 12252706 produces a string that is not the record.
  • Do not read relationships into proximity. Consecutive references such as 17132768-00 and 17132769-00 are related records, not one part stocked twice.
  • Pair the number with the VIN. The number identifies the record; the VIN identifies the vehicle. Neither substitutes for the other in our process, because our published index does not carry model-year fitment.
  • State the side and position. Where a name group is large, the side often separates the candidates faster than any other single piece of information.

We confirm, part number by part number, whether we can supply it. If you have no number, send us a photograph of the label and we will check whether we can source it. The commercial floor is €50 per shipment; guide prices are shown on the parts pages, with trade and volume pricing on request. Typical dispatch time is confirmed on the quotation; transit depends on the shipping method you choose.

Short answers

Is 00 a revision code?

In our index every one of the 169 references ends in -00, so the suffix carries no discriminating information there. We do not describe it as a revision code; we simply treat it as part of the reference and ask you to quote it in full.

Why do BYD references have no revision letter?

We observe none in our data. That is a statement about our index, not about BYD's numbering. The practical effect is that version differences are not visible in the string and must be checked against the record and the VIN.

Can I order "a shock absorber for a Seal" by description?

No. Our index holds twelve references under Shock Absorber, including 13351989-00 and 17132720-00, and the published index does not carry model-year fitment. Application is confirmed per enquiry against the OE number and the VIN.

Two numbers are consecutive. Are they the same part?

No. Consecutive numbering shows that the records are related — as with the Ball Joint pair 12252706-00 and 12252707-00 — but not that one can replace the other. Order the exact reference.

Does the first two digits tell me which model it fits?

Not in our data. The prefix distribution is concentrated in the 12–15 range and does not map to a vehicle or sub-system we can verify, so we do not use it to narrow an enquiry.

What if the label on my old part is unreadable?

Send the VIN, the position and side, and photographs of the part and its mounting. We confirm, part number by part number, whether we can supply it, and where the number cannot be recovered we will check whether we can source it before quoting.

Where this comes from.

The references, counts and group sizes quoted above are taken from GNSGO's own parts index for BYD vehicles — the same list at BYD-compatible parts — OE reference index. Every statement about format, prefixes and same-name groups is an observation from those 169 records, not a numbering definition published by BYD. Application is confirmed per enquiry against the OE number and the VIN; the published index does not carry model-year fitment, so we do not infer it here. The Tesla comparison reflects the reference shape visible in our Tesla index and is included only as a contrast buyers will recognise. We have not drawn on BYD's copyrighted workshop documentation, and we do not reproduce any manual or wiring-diagram pages. Where our own data is incomplete, we say so rather than filling the gap with a plausible answer.

This page is general information only.

It is not a repair instruction, not a diagnosis of a particular vehicle, and not a substitute for professional advice. Restraint-system and high-voltage parts are outside the scope of this page. Work on high-voltage systems, restraint systems and structural repairs belongs with technicians qualified for it. Confirm the application against the VIN before ordering. Have any work carried out by a suitably qualified workshop.
